Last tie 4-6 April 2014
Croatia travelled to Poland for a high profile Zone Group I second round tie which did not disappoint. After a straightforward win for Marin Cilic in the opening rubber, talented Croatian youngster Borna Coric defeated Wimbledon semifinalist Jerzy Janowicz in a five set thriller to leave Croatia 2-0 up. The experienced Polish pair of Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski won the doubles rubber in another five set match to haul their team back into the tie, before Cilic recovered from two sets down to defeat Janowicz and book a World Group play-off slot for Croatia.
Croatia became the first unseeded nation to win the title, when they defeated Slovak Republic 3-2 in the 2005 Final in Bratislava. Prior to 1992, Croatian players represented Yugoslavia.
