Czech Republic hosts Argentina in a repeat of last year's World Group semifinals. The home side has won four of its five ties against Argentina, with its only defeat coming in Buenos Aires in 2005 when Guillermo Coria starred with two singles wins as the hosts raced to a 5-0 win. The two nations have never met on a hard court, with four of their past meetings on clay and one on carpet. Victory would see the Czechs reach a third Davis Cup final in five years against either Canada or Serbia.

Czech Republic made amends for its shock defeat to Kazakhstan in the 2011 World Group first round by recording a 3-1 victory in the second meeting between the two nations to reach the semifinals. With Czech No. 1 Tomas Berdych and and Radek Stepanek absent from singles, Lukas Rosol made the most of his opportunity in the limelight. He followed Jan Hajek's opening singles win over Mikhail Kukushkin with wins over Andrey Golubev and Evgeny Korolev to put the defending champion into its fourth semifinal in the last five years.
History
Following their 2012 victory over Spain, Czech Republic have now won the Davis Cup on two occasions. The first victory came in 1980, when they played as Czechoslovakia. They have also finished runners-up on two further occasions, in 1975 and 2009. Along with USA, they have appeared in the World Group in all but one year. Czech players represented Czechoslovakia until 1992, and then Czech/Slovak Republics in 1993.
