Next tie 15-17 July 2016
After a first-round bye, Spain will play the winner of a tie between Romania and Lithuania/Slovenia.
Last tie 18-20 September 2015
Spain's strong team paid off as they whitewashed Denmark 5-0, but that certainly doesn't tell the full story in a tie where the hosting Danes pushed their much more illustrious opponents hard in a couple of rubbers. Rafael Nadal returned to action and won the opening rubber against Mikael Torpegaard, but the Dane fought well in the first set, holding multiple break points at 4-4. David Ferrer was much more comfortable in the second rubber though against Frederik Nielsen. Nielsen and Thomas Kromann got a set off Nadal and Fernando Verdasco in Saturday's doubles but lost in four, before Roberto Bautista Agut and Ferrer won the reverse singles to wrap up a 5-0 win for Spain and keep them in Zone Group I for 2016.
Spain have dominated Davis Cup over the last decade, winning five times in 2000, 2004, 2008, 2009 and 2011. Their victory in 2011 came after an enthralling 3-1 defeat of Argentina in the Final in Seville. They also finished runner-up in 1965, 1967, 2003 and 2012.
