Last tie 1-3 Feb 2013
Germany were on the wrong end of a 5-0 whitewash in the World Group first round when they took on Argentina. They suffered a critical blow on the first day when, in the opening rubber, Philipp Kohlschreiber was forced to retire from his match against Carlos Berlocq in the fifth set. Juan Monaco won the second rubber to give Argentina a 2-0 lead, and when Germany could only claim one set in the doubles, the tie was over.
History
Germany have won the Davis Cup title on three occasions - in 1988, 1989 and 1993 - and currently lie in seventh place on the all-time list of champions. Until 1990, German players represented F.R. Germany.
