Ukraine will have a first ever Davis Cup clash with Spain when they travel to the five-time champions in the World Group play-off. Ukraine have never competed in the World Group and lost their only previous World Group play-off 3-2 to Belgium in 2009.

The first ever meeting between Ukraine and Sweden turned into an unexpected thriller. Sweden had been predicted to win comfortably, but, when Sweden took a shock 2-1 lead after the doubles, Ukraine were forced to dig deep and fight back. Alexandr Dolgopolov won his reverse singles rubber to level the tie and Sergiy Stakhovsky proved to be Ukraine's hero when he won the fifth rubber.
History
Ukraine's best Davis Cup performance came in 2009, when reaching the World Group play-offs. As an independent nation, Ukraine first played in the competition in 1993.
