Uzbekistan will play in Asia/Oceania Group I again in 2014 and have received a bye through to the second round where they will face China, P.R. They will travel to China having won the previous meeting between the nations last year in the first round convincingly at home moving into a 4-3 all-time lead in the head-to-head.

Uzbekistan fell 3-1 to Australia in their Asia/Oceania Group I 2nd round clash in Namanagan. Uzbek No. 1 Denis Istomin won the only rubber for the hosts', pegging Australia back to 1-1 after Bernard Tomic had defeated Farrukh Dustov in the opening rubber, but a five-set doubles win for Lleyton Hewitt and Matthew Ebden put the visitors back in the ascendancy before Tomic sealed the triumph with a four-set victory over Istomin.
Uzbekistan has reached the World Group play-offs on six occasions, in 2009, 2012, and also between 1998 and 2001. Prior to 1992, players from Uzbekistan represented Soviet Union.
